I have NOT, yet I know there are a number of bloggers doing the race (half or full). Assuming nothing has yet been set up, here are some possibilities I see:

Thurs, 11/5, 5-8pm, Kick Off Dinner @ Convention Center
Friday, 11/6, breakfast somewhere
Friday 11/6, lunch somewhere
Friday, 11/6, dinner somewhere
Friday, 11/6, Athlete meeting 12 noon, 2pm or 5pm
Sunday, 11/8, breakfast somewhere
Sunday, 11/8, 11am-2pm, Awards Ceremony Cruise

If you know of a blogger meet-up, please do tell. Otherwise, if you're interested in meeting other bloggers, which of the above do you prefer? Feel free to make other suggestions and also share info about when you are getting in, leaving, and where are you staying if you want.

Those interested in meeting up should attend the NOON athlete's meeting on Friday, 11/6. The City of Wilmington and the Town of Wrightsville Beach embraced the event and made it a pleasure for the 1,000+ athletes involved. The 2008 edition also opened the eyes of the city to the scope and magnitude of the event. Very few anticipated the traffic gridlock caused by the winding courses that circled the entire city of Wilmington.

With that in mind for 2009, Beach2Battleship and City officials have finalized the implementation of several changes to the courses. While the Swim course will remain unchanged, the bike and run courses will undergo significant changes in order to lessen the impact on movement in and around Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington.

The new course maps will be posted to the Beach2Battleship site very soon, but in the mean time, here are a few of the changes athletes will see in 2009.

* The bike course will no longer start by coming into Wilmington via MLK Blvd. from the Beach. Rather, athletes will make a right hand turn off of MLK near the beach before heading onto a closed lane of Interstate I-140, then onto Hwy 421 as shown on the current map. This change will eliminate one bridge crossing and create a much safer route for motorists and athletes alike.

* The run course will change from a 13.1 mile loop to a 6.55 mile out and back run, utilizing the first 6.55 miles of the 2008 run course. The new run course will also eliminate a bridge crossing creating a much faster and safer course. This change will also eliminate traffic gridlock by providing a free flowing exit from the downtown area via the Memorial Bridge. Also, trolleys will be able to move in and out of the Battleship Memorial to supplement the river boats in transporting athletes and spectators from downtown to the finish line area.

Make Your Athlete Function Reservations Now!

So, you are registered for the event. Great! Your training is on track and you are looking to have a great time. Well, don't foget the events outside of the event itself. Part of what makes Beach2Battleship so great is the chance to enjoy the scenic City of Wilmington with your fellow athletes while you are racing AND while you are relaxing before and after the event.

In addition to the race itself, athletes have a chance to take part in the Athlete Kick-Off Dinner (Thursday November 5, 2009) and the Full Distance Awards Cruise (Sunday November 8, 2009). But we need your reservations to hold your spot.

To make any and all reservations for these athlete functions simply email us at reservations@setupevents.com . To learn more about these fuctions visit the Special Events section of the web site HERE

Athlete Kick-Off Dinner: Thursday 11/5/2009 (5-8PM)
FREE to all athletes. $10 for all guests (pre-registered - 10 and older) and $15 for all guests (at packet pick-up - 10 and older). Guests under 10 are free.

Full Awards Cruise: Sunday 11/8/2009 (11AM - 2PM)
A 3 hour tour of downtown Wilmington via the Henrietta Riverboat. The Full Awards Cruise is for full or half athletes, their friends and family members. Cost is $15 for each pre-registered passenger ($20 at packet pick-up if space is still available). Space is limited to the first 400 reservations.

Hilton to Transition 1 - Event Morning Buses
For those athletes without a ride to Transition 1 on event morning, we will be running 3 buses from the Hilton to Transition 1. These 3 buses will all leave at 5AM on event morning from the downtown Hilton. There will be no buses leaving later than 5AM. This bus will be for athletes only (NO spectators). You must have a reservation to ride this bus.

Again, reservations for the above must be made by emailing us at reservations@setupevents.com . Please include in your reservation email which function you are making a reservation for, how many athletes and how many guests will be in your party.Nancy Tobyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18402516081283603553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9031195003555501042.post-85039043801640139602009-08-10T12:43:00.000-04:002009-08-10T12:44:31.519-04:00Sunrise, sunsetThe following information is provided for Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina (longitude W77.9, latitude N34.2):

Saturday 7 November 2009 Eastern Standard Time

SUN
Begin civil twilight 6:11 a.m.
Sunrise 6:37 a.m.
Sun transit 11:55 a.m.
Sunset 5:13 p.m.
End civil twilight 5:39 p.m.

MOON
Moonrise 8:43 p.m. on preceding day
Moon transit 4:11 a.m.
Moonset 11:32 a.m.
Moonrise 9:53 p.m.
Moonset 12:16 p.m. on following day

Phase of the Moon on 7 November: waning gibbous with 72% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated.
Last quarter Moon on 9 November 2009 at 10:56 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.Nancy Tobyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18402516081283603553noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9031195003555501042.post-72074467458911506192009-08-04T11:15:00.004-04:002009-08-04T20:49:24.538-04:00B2B bike routeI tried mapping out the bike loop elevations for B2B full and unfortunately I don't seem to be able to save the file, but as far as I can tell:

There's a fairly gradual climb to 115 ft elevation at mile 55, then it dips to 60 feet at mile 59, climbs back up to 115 feet at mile 62, then drops very gradually back to the baseline at the starting point.

In other words, it's about as pancake flat as you'll get anywhere, with a little bit to wake up the legs around the midpoint. I only got 104 miles on the course I did quickly, because I skipped the part between T1 and T2 (which I believe includes a couple taller bridge crossings) but that's the gist.

Just be ready for wind!!

The route is also on MapMyRide. Nancy Tobyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18402516081283603553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9031195003555501042.post-35389888037452415582009-07-06T07:18:00.001-04:002009-07-06T07:20:06.023-04:00It's 7:15 AMAnd this Beach to Battleship triathlete needs to stop reading blogs/facebook/email and head out for a ride.

How is your training coming along?Dr. Iron TriFeist :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03965092445423137908noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9031195003555501042.post-44351025595326112482009-01-29T12:28:00.004-05:002009-01-29T12:36:13.260-05:00Hotel Options for out of townersI was just looking into the different hotel options for B2B and thought a post might help. I am gathering from the forums and other blog posts that there was some considerable issues with transition are locations and getting back to hotels post-race last year.

Anyone have insight to the problems? Any indication there are changes for this year?

The main hotels appear to be the Hilton Wilmington Riverside and the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. Thoughts on the benefits of either one? Issues?

I will also have some spectators staying with me (as most racers will, I'm sure). Any ideas for how the different hotels may be better/worse for that long spectating day?

Thanks!! Happy training...Joy | Love | Chaoshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05976555367096513196noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9031195003555501042.post-41316641926429777672009-01-16T16:32:00.000-05:002009-01-16T16:32:32.093-05:0010 Most Annoying People At The Gym - Page 1This is why I won't workout at my YMCA (other than the pool) until after Groundhog Day...

10 Most Annoying People At The Gym

After that, it's usually safe to go back as all the temporary resolutionists have quit. They have prices on most of the houses if you click for individual information. I've seen everything from $500/week to $2500/week for places that looked nice.

Of course, since the finish line is in downtown Wilmington (9 miles away), you will have to figure out how to get transportation back for you and your bike after the race.
